Water intrusion from severe flooding, sewage backup and leaking sewer pipes or septic tanks can lead to the contamination of your home or business. Exposure to raw sewage (known as black water) greatly increases the risk of exposure to dangerous digestive system diseases and other related illnesses. Some of the possible diseases that you could be exposed to include Salmonella, Escherichia coli, and Shigella.
To help determine the possible health risks from the sewage contamination, testing for pathogens (disease causing microorganisms) and bacteria such as total coliforms, fecal coliforms and Enterococcus is usually needed, and highly recommended, to determine the presence and extent of the bacteria. We will also retest for these after the sewage cleanup has been performed to ensure the affected area is safe to be reoccupied.
Luce Air Quality will take a combination of on-site samples – bacteria air, wipe and bulk samples – and will offer complete data analysis and interpretation of the cultured samples (results usually take 24-48 hours) taken from all areas affected by the black/sewer water. Next we will develop recommendations for remediation following the standards set by the IICRC / S500 Standard for Water Damaged Restoration and will do a post water damage restoration assessment to confirm that the sewage damage restoration was successful so that containment barriers can be taken down and reconstruction can begin.
Luce Air Quality’s consultants provides comprehensive environmental consulting, project management, sampling services, and remediation recommendations that are designed to control and reduce potential environmental risk.
